A renovation project for an apartment in Yokohama.
Initially, the client's request was aimed for a dignified and luxurious space which is mainly decorated with walnut and stone, but as considering for the young children residency, bright colors and spaces are required later on by our client in addition to the original profound and luxurious feeling. At first, it seems that it is difficult for the two types of spaces to coexist, but we successfully achieved the goal by studding the texture of stones in place based on walnut and actively incorporating bright color tones such as beige and greige.
Moreover, the floor plan of a standard Japanese condominium originally came with a Japanese-style room next to the living-dining area. However, the original floor plan made the space feel narrow and closed, so we removed the Japanese-style room and replaced with a new dining space.
With this change, the space that was a little cramped for both dining and living room is now dedicated to the living room, creating a great sense of openness.
